Electrical discharge machining technology is an important part in the special processing technology. It is also an important complement and development to the traditional mechanical processing, EDM including EDM small hole machining, electric spark forming processing, wire cutting, etc. It is a use of immersion in the work of liquid between the poles when pulse discharge from the galvanic action to removal in material processing method, In order to reach a certain size and the shape of the surface roughness request processing method. It is the use of electrical energy into heat energy to machining the work piece, the single pulse discharge energy is higher, and the duration of the pulse discharge is very short, the pulse parameters can be adjusted within a certain scope, therefore can be used for processing the rough, finishing, semi-finishing and can also processing any hard, brittle, ductile work piece. In EDM small hole machining process, along with the increase of processing depth, material removal rate is reduce, even unable to continue processing, deep processing is restricted, and the machining accuracy cannot be guaranteed, it’s easy to have a processing taper, etc. Circular cross section electrode is commonly used in EDM small hole machining, in order to improve the EDM small hole machining processing speed, depth to diameter ratio and the machining accuracy and reduce the loss of the tool electrode,we use the chamfered edge section electrode to machine, cutting edge section electrode in the processing of holes, due to the symmetric edge gap flow field than the cylindrical section after the electrode gap flow field of the space increases, more conducive to processing, effectively improve the EDM small hole machining in many problems, to improve the machining performance overall.The article mainly to complete the following several aspects:(1) Detailed introduces the chamfered edge electrode preparation process, and analyses shaving electrode to discharge gap, discharge channel, electricity act the role offing scallops, processing speed and the influence of electrode loss.(2) With different diameter cylindrical electrode and cutting edge electrode respectively processing different thickness and different material of work piece, record the experiment data and analysis.(3)Through theoretical analysis for electrical discharge machining process, the Gambit in building simulation model, with Fluent simulation software to study the shaving electrode and cylindrical electrode velocity field, pressure field, and use post-processing software to do image processing.(4) Compared to experimental analysis results and simulation analysis, it is concluded that shaving electrode and cylindrical electrode to improve the processing speed, reducing electrode loss and the improvement of the machining accuracy and machining depth to diameter is conclusion.
