Wire cut Electrical Discharge Machining(WEDM) is one kind of special machining technology. It has been widely used in the mold manufacturing and machinery processing industry. However, there are few simulation products of WEDM in current market, most simulation capabilities focused on numerical control systems, the machine model and numerical control systems are not combined.Considering the advantage of other traditional simulation software, this paper is aim to redesign the simulation system of WEDM.Firstly, the geometry and motion characteristics of WEDM are analyzed, the 3D structure design and the model mapping rendering by UG and 3DMAX are completed to enhance the authenticity of the simulation scene. On the basis of the simulation environment, the case based training mode are used to achieve teaching objectives. To reduce the coupling of thecode and facilitate late maintenance, the tree structure model is used to design the teach-practice-test learning model.Secondly, the interface and function of CNC system of WEDM are designed and simulated. The system uses regular expressions to realize searching, extracting and editing CNC code. And combined with the characteristics of NC code to complete the compilation. Then the processing graphics can be read out. Binding the properties of the simulation system, the machine interpolation calculation has been optimized so as to raise the operation efficiency, and the system now supports two-axis and four-axis simultaneous machining.Finally, a 3D Boolean operation algorithm which is suitable for ruled surfaces with triangular mesh is proposed, and it is capable for Boolean operation between different models on the basis of line and triangular facets intersection. Also, some proper optimization has been done to improve operational efficiency.
