The short flax fiber is the fall hemp from hackling machine when combing the linen craft,because of itself has quite high crystallinity and orientation, together with more impuritiessuch as pectin and lignin, and it has thick hard property, gives its poor spinnability. Thespinnability of short flax fiber after pretreatment it remains to be improved, so to the flaxshort fiber grafting modification, further improve the spinning performance.This article through the theory analysis and a large number of experimental, the initiatorof REDOX system with sodium thiosulphate and ammonium persulphate is determined, thesystem cause flax short fiber grafting polymerization with acrylic monomers. Evaluationindications are the grafted flax short fiber’s fiber grafting rate and the monomer graftingefficiency, and the inspection basis are the fiber’s breaking strength and elongation at break,through the preliminary discussion of the single factor experiment and orthogonal experimentto optimize, determine the best technology of flax short fiber grafting modification, and verifythe reliability of the optimum process conditions.The best grafted flax short fiber modification process conditions as follows: reaction time5h, reaction temperature50℃, acrylic acid concentration1.25mol/L, ammonium persulphateconcentration0.27g/L, sodium thiosulphate concentration0.5mol/L, bath ratio1:50. Thespinning ability of flax stable by the best grafting modification process conditions as follows:fiber grafting rate10.27%, monomer grafting efficiency0.92%.Analyze the functional groups of the graft modification of fiber use the method of infraredspectrum analysis, and use electron microscopy to scan the fiber’s morphology changesbefore and after the modification. Show that in ammonium persulphate and ammoniumpersulphate as initiator of the trigger condition, the acrylic monomers were successfullygrafted onto the flax short fiber.In this subject, the detailed study on the graft modification of flax stable fiber spinningperformance. Carried on the thorough analysis to the modified fiber grafting rate and breakingstrength, elongation at break of fiber splitting degree, and the relation between the waterabsorption rate, water retention of fiber. Composite fiber spinning performance show that:modified fiber in high grafting rate cannot get the best spinning performance, the bestspinning performance at about4.95%for grafting rate.Comprehensive analysis the performance modified flax short fiber: splitting degree987Nm, breaking strength10.78cN.tex-1, elongation at break11.86%, white degree75.18%, waterabsorption rate1207%, water retention was also improved. Show that the modified flax short fiber spinning performance were well improved, which fulfill the spinning requirements ofcotton spinning equipment.
