Abstract/Summary:
While the whole world is confronted with the challenge of global warming andenvironmental degradation, Chinese traditional industry pattern which with highmaterial and energy consumption brings China severe environmental problems. Allthe countries around the whole world are making great efforts to explore neweconomic growth modes, are engaged in the studies on energy-saving and emissionreduction and are trying every endeavor to develop low-carbon economy. Under suchabove-mentioned global background, domestic and foreign scholars put forward alarge number of econometric models and methods to solve complicated environmentalproblems. Among all the research directions, studies on environmental efficiency arewidely focused on. This dissertation will study on the environmental efficiency ofWan Jiang City Belt, therefore extend the research scope and improve relevanttheories of environmental efficiency. In this dissertation, the undesirable outputs suchas urban CO2and urban ‘three wastes’(exhaust, sewage and residue) are involved inthe environmental efficiency research. Reasonable design of measure methods ofurban environmental efficiency is provided to obtain relatively precise data of urbanenvironmental efficiency. In the meanwhile, the research perspective is original underwhich non-radial and non-angle data envelopment analysis is applied in the study ofenvironmental efficiency of urban agglomeration.Under such situation in which low-carbon is presently becoming commonlyfocused, this dissertation demonstrates and analyzes the environmental efficiency ofWan Jiang city belt. Undesirable outputs such as urban CO2emission and urban ‘threewastes’(exhaust, sewage and residue) are involved in the research of the Wan Jiangcity belt’s environmental efficiency. For the CO2emission data of each city cannot bedirectly collected, Kaya model is adopted to calculate the CO2emission amount ofeach city according to the energy consumption and the discharge coefficient of eachparticular kind of energy. This research uses SBM model to measure and calculate theurban environmental efficiency. Based on this model, input and output indexes areselected firstly and then together with the panel data of Wan Jiang city belt to figureout the environmental efficiency of each city. SBM model’s input data concludes following aspects: each city’s relevant data of the input amount of labor, the amountof energy consumption, the gross value of production and the index of environmentpollution, which are obtained by collection, induction and arrangement. Based onthose data, relevant software is applied to figure out the model. In this dissertation, thepanel data of each city of Wan Jiang city belt is applied to figure out theenvironmental efficiency of those cities. On the above basis, evaluation indexes ofenvironmental efficiency of Wan Jiang city belt are established and the influencingfactors and effect mechanism of environmental efficiency are analyzed through themethod of regression analysis. Therefore, according to the above-mentioned results,some reasonable suggestions are put forward towards the low-carbon development ofWan Jiang city belt.
