| In this paper, a tailings dam of a certain mine is set as research object. Long termlaboratory capillary water rising experiments were conducted for studying rising height andrising velocity of capillary water and numerical simulation is used to study the stability of thetailings dam. The major works and results of this paper are as follows:1) The laboratory experiment was conducted for studying rising rule of capillary waterin tailings sand of the tailings dam. The results show that rising velocity of capillary water isfast at the beginning and rising height of the capillary water which reaches a high height in ashort time accounts for above50percentage of the finally rising height in the first3days. Theregression equation between the time, temperature, atmospheric pressure and the rising heightof capillary water is obtained by analyzing the experiment results. The influence oftemperature on rising height of capillary water is larger than the influence of atmosphericpressure.2) In order to predict rising height of capillary water in tailings sand of differentgradations, eight gradations are designed by using uniform design method. The rule of risingheight of capillary water in eight gradations is that rising height of capillary water is basicallyinverse proportion with content of coarse sand and direct proportion with content of finegrained sand. It is fairly effective for rising height of capillary water in eight gradations to usemultiple linear regression. Seeing the void ratio and the effective size as a factor andestablishing the regression equation between the factor and rising height of capillary water ineight gradations. The degree of correlation of the regression equation is high which canestimate rising height of capillary water in this tailings dam.3) Numerical analysis of stability in two conditions of a certain tailing dam is conducted. The two conditions include considering capillary water and ignoring capillary water. Thecalculation results show that the factor of safety ignoring capillary water is1.25and thefactor of safety considering capillary water is1.23which decreases by1.6%. The existence ofcapillary water has some influence on the safety stability of tailings dam. |
