Working roll is one of the important parts of blooming mill. The content of Cr andheat treatment technology have been taken seriously by most manufacturers of workingroll of civil and abroad for higher function. We can see from the tendency that workingroll have gone through a process that the content of Cr become more and more higher. Atthe moment, the relevance parameters of forging working roll of Cr8are very rareespecially the parameter of thermal. Recently, the research for it is not very mature.Quenching is a important process in heat treatment technology. It makes a importantrole. Numerical simulation technology is a necessary method in the process of research forquenching. We can not only simulate the technology of quenching distinctly but alsoforecast the result accurately with it. This is useful for conducting theory researching andproduction.This paper measured the austenite grain size of Cr8steel under different heatingtemperature and different holding time and the austenite grain growth behavior of Cr8steel with them. And a mathematical model of austenite grain growth of Cr8steel wasobtained based on nonlinear regression analysis of experimental date with the function ofBeck, Arrhenins and Sellar. Meanwhile this paper measured the hardness of this steel afterquench and temper. The TTT, CCT curves and the flow stress under different temperatureby many experiments. It enrichs the date base of Cr8steel and is helpful for furtherresearch.Then based on the results of experiments performed before and practice the writerchosen a heating technology and established the model of temperature field, themicrostructure field, the stress field and the couple field of them considering the results oftransformation plasticity and transition latent heat and other complex boundary condition.After that, geometry model and finite element model were built using software of CADand CAE. At last, the process of quenching of Cr8working roll was simulated with thefinite element software of DEFORM. It analyse the feature of temperature, stress,microstructure of some special points on the roll of “air-water” and “air-fog” cycling coolmethod and selected a optimum technology. The research achievement of this paper is of certain guiding significance for future research and production of working roll of Cr8steel.
