Phthalic acid esters (PAEs) compounds are a class of typical material of traceorganic pollutants, which are composed of synthetic organic compounds, are the mainsource of plasticizer, used to increase the plasticity of the plastic. They widely exist inthe air, water, soil and biological body, and cause endocrine disorders of the humanbody, endanger reproductive function or trigger malignant tumor. So it is very urgent todevelop the high-performance flocculant used to deal with the phthalic acid esterscompounds. At present, inorganic flocculant and organic polymer flocculant are mainly used inwater treatment. Polyacrylamide flocculant is a kind of important organic polymerflocculant. Polyacrylamide (Polyacrylamide, PAM) means acrylamide (AM) and itsderivative of homopolymer and copolymer collectively. PAM can be divided intoanionic polyacrylamide (APAM), cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) and nonionicpolyacrylamide (NPAM) and amphoteric polyacrylamide. Among them, anionicpolyacrylamide (APAM), simultaneously with the function of flocculation, waterabsorption, thickening and resistance reduction, can be widely used in water treatment, coal, chemical industry, oil production, Mineral dressing and other fields. In the study of organic polymer, polymerization under uv irradiation is a newmethod, which can lower the activation energy of polymerization, lower the reactiontemperature, simplify the operation, shorten the reaction time. Its advantages of highefficiency, energy saving and environmental protection makes this method have broadapplication prospects in the acrylamide polymerization. The paper, first of all, reviewed the development and present situation of organichigh polymer flocculant and APAM. After the analysis of the mechanism ofpolymerization under uv irradiation, the paper determined the use of uv irradiation, andstudied the improvement of synthesis conditions in the preparation of APAM under uvirradiation, then analyzed and verified the nature and structure of the product by variousmeans. Finally, the APAM was used to deal with DEP in the water. The removalefficiency was studied, and the processing conditions were optimized. The paper’s main conclusions are as follows:①APAM was prepared under the action of composite initiator and UV irradiation, using acryl amide (AM),2-acrylamido-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid (AMPS) and acrylic acid(AA) as raw materials. The paper studied the effect of proportion betweenmonomers, monomer ratio, initiator concentration and other factors on intrinsicviscosity of the polymer, and optimized preparation conditions. The results showed thatthe APAM with the molecular weight8.8million can prepared when the proportionbetween monomers was7:1:1, the monomer ratio was40%, initiator concentration was0.10%, EDTA concentration was0.1%, urea concentration was0.2%, pH was9and theillumination time was60min.②A variety of chemical bonds in the AM, AA and AMPS were found in theinfrared spectrum analysis, which proved the correct structure of the polymer inresearch. By uv spectral analysis, these three kinds of monomers did occurpolymerization to produce new substances. Through differential thermal-thermogravimetric analysis, it was found that the structure of APAM was stable at roomtemperature. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that the polymer APAMhad a unique fold or layer structure, which was evenly distributed with numerousmicroporous structure, making the product has a larger specific surface area. This makesit stronger adsorption and bridging ability than similar polymers. By nuclear magneticresonance spectrum analysis, the proton peaks of the three kinds of monomers wereappeard in the spectra of polymerization product, which once again confirmed that theproduct APAM was polymerized by AM, AA and AMPS.③APAM was used to deal with DEP in the water. The factors influencing thetreatment effect were studied, such as the dosage of APAM, pH, stirring time, sedimentation time, and temperature. It was found in single factor experiment, when theAPAM dosage was9mg/L, pH was9, and the Stirring time was6min, the removalefficiency of DEP was the highest. Based on the important factors in the orthogonalexperiment, when the APAM dosage was9mg/L, pH was9, stirring time was9min,DEP had the highest removal rate, which was82.5%. And it was proved that the APAMwe prepared was better than the other two kinds of anionic polyacrylamides in the useof DEP removal.
