Dispersion copolymerization of acrylamide(AM) with methacryloyloxyethyl trimethyl ammonium Chloride(DMC) and/or 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acide(AMPS) were reacted in ethanol/water medium by using polyvinylpyrroidone(PVP) as dispersant, using azobisisobutyronitrile(AIBN) as initiator. The effects of influence factors such as polymerization time, polymerization temperature, the ratio of ethanol to water, the dosage of PVP, the dosage of AIBN, the contents of monomers, monomer ratio on the performance of the dipersion copolymerization were investigated, by means of determinating conversion rate and limiting viscosity of product. The molecular structure, particle size and figure of copolymers were analyzed by Infrared Spectrometer, Transmission Electron. The flocculation efficieney of the products was inspected by flocculation experiments of waste water which was simulated by diatomite suspension. The single-factor experiment showed that the condition of preparating stable emulsion with higher limiting viscosity and conversion rate was that the polymerization time was 6h, temperature was from 65 to 68℃, the dosage of AIBN based on monomer mass is from 0.40 to 0.50%(w), PVP is from 14 to 18%(w), the ethanol concentration based on dispersion medium is from 50 to 65%(V), the monomers concentration is from 15 to 25%(w), the dosage of DMC based on monomer mass is from 10 to 20%. The best condition of AM-DMC dipersion copolymerization by orthogonal experiments is that the ethanol concentration based on dispersion medium is 55%(V), the dosdge of PVP based on monomer mass is 18%(w), AIBN is 0.45%(w), DMC is 20%(w), while the polymerization time is 6h, temperature is 68℃, the monomers concentration is 20%(w).The effect of treating simulation waste water with synthesized polymers were good, cationic polyacrylamide(CPAM) was the best among them. With the assistance of the polymer, PAC had a better effect on flocculation than used alone, and moreover, the dosdge was less. For the same type polyacrylamide(PAM), the greater the limiting viscosity, the better the flocculation performance. For CPAM, the higher the charge density, the faster the flocculating speed.
