Roll is an important tool of the rolling production line. The quality of rollimpacts the quality of steel plate directly. The quenching heat treatment of roll isclosely related to its quality. Induction heating has the advantages of low energyconsumption, easy to control, green, etc. Induction heating technology of roll has beena hot issue in the roll producing industry. However, the domestic systematicapplication of induction heating has remained in the small components, and theapplication of the skills in large work piece such as roll still is in its infancy.According to the principle of induction heating, this paper has developed rollinduction heating system. The main research content and results obtained are asfollows:Firstly, the problem, that the electromagnetic field and temperature fielddistribution regularity within the cylindrical work pieces under induction heating, isresearched. Starting with Maxwell equations, this paper derives the electromagneticfield and eddy distribution regularity within the cylindrical work pieces, verifies theskin effect. Then, with the basic theory of thermotics, using Finite Difference Method,the model of temperature field inside cylindrical work pieces is derived.Secondly, from the angle of energy conversion in induction heating, thesimplified model of roll induction heating is built. And the simplified model iscompared with the highly reliable finite element model. The simulation result showsthat the simplified model is valid, and the simplified model has obvious advantagescompared to finite element model in the calculation speed and computationalcomplexity.Finally, the roll induction heating system is developed. The induction heatingcomputer model system is founded under Visual Studio2008. It has the functions ofdata management, on-line data exhibition, off-line simulation, monitoring alarm, etc.Aimed with different operator and different operate target, the according operatemode is developed. With this System, the user could monitor the temperature fieldchanges on-line, and conduct the off-line induction heating optimizing research. Therefore, this paper has great engineering values to the application of roll inductionheating technology.
