As a novel functional material, amorphous alloys have excellent physical properties, chemical properties and magnetic properties. They have been widely used in theproduction of various fields, and play an increasingly important role in the production andin the human life. However, due to the small size of the amorphous alloy prepared, itseverely limits their applications in practice. In order to make the amorphous alloys befully utilized, preparation of bulk amorphous alloy materials becomes to be an importantproblem that should be solved.A thorough research of the Fe-based amorphous alloy material was accomplished inthis paper by the new powder metallurgy technology which includes mechanical alloying(MA) and spark plasma sintering(SPS). Mechanical alloying technology is a new type ofunbalanced processing technology. It can prepare amorphous alloys of which thecomposition is difficult to form by conventional liquid quenching technique. Spark plasmasintering technique is a kind of sintering technique that spends shorter sintering time andhas a higher heating speed and has been widely used in the preparation of a variety of bulkmaterials. Two kinds of Fe-based amorphous alloys powder of Fe73.5Cu1Nb3Si13.5B9andFe76.9Cu0.6Nb2.5Si11B9were prepared by mechanical alloying technology. The X-raydiffraction (XRD) and the scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to analyze theinfluence of the milling technology on the organizational and structure. Powder alloyswere analyzed by using the differential thermal analysis (DTA) method to get itsthermodynamic and kinetic properties. Vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) was usedto analyze the magnetic properties of the Fe-based amorphous alloy powders. The amorphous alloy powder prepared was sintered into bulk amorphous alloys of20mm in diameter and about6mm in thickness by spark plasma sintering furnace.Compressive strength, density and hardness of the bulk amorphous alloys sintered weretested in order to analyze the influence of the sintering process on the mechanicalproperties of sintered samples. And scanning electron microscope was also used to analyze the influence of the sintering process on the structure of the sample. VSM tests were madeto analyze the effects of different sintering processes on the magnetic properties of thebulk Fe-based amorphous alloy sintered.
