Without digital data, how to fully make use of the old optical analogue seismic sections and films and to renewedly constrast, reinterpret, specially reprocess and restore them (including those on which have been manually interpreted), how to resolve the difficulty that the hard copied seismic sections can only be read but not be further reprocessed, an effective approach, which makes it possible to reprocess and reinterpret old seismic sections and films, has been put forward in this paper.Nowadays, a large quantity of old paper seismic sections have been kept in various oil fields around the world, but with no post stack seismic data available in the existing database. In this paper, the graphical image processing technology has been applied to the scanned rasterizing paper sections through the process of binary coding, geometric correction, time event elimination, seismic wave search and extraction, and to convert them into the vectorized data. Then, these data would be reformatted to the standard SEG-Y format in order to for the further processing and interpretation.Through the digitization to the real seismic sections that we realized that the digitized seismic records can reflect the true conditions of the old seismic sections. Therefore, it is an effective method for processing and interpreting the old seismic data.
