Engineering education, which is the combination of engineering and education of the two systems, cultivates specialized education science and technology can be transformed into productive forces as the main task of the engineering science and technology talent. Although Chinese Engineering Education started later than western countries, but China still has a long history of engineering education, and this process began from nineteenth century.Mawei Shipyard School founded in1867. At first, it was a special Navy personnel training institutions. After forty years’development, it developted into a college which cultivate many kinds of engineering talents. It introduced advanced western education mode, and initiated the study abroad system. Shipyard school’s glory was from trained naval construction, machinery manufacturing, mining and smelting, telecom, railway and a number of other social needed talents.Of course, the management mode and education methods of the shipping school are worthy of our in-depth research. Shipping school introduced western modern education teaching mode, implementating the Chinese and Western management mode and the student management mode of "I’m all right to speak". Shipping school initiated the modern international system, making the advanced western technology spread in the country.Researching shipping school through the understanding of its achievements and significance, summarizing its impact on the engineering education and the time after the Republic of China, so that we can more clearly understand its position in the history of engineering education.
