Abstract:The term "road surface collapse" is coming into our life more and more. Urban road surface collapse has become one of main types of urban geologic hazards. With the rapid economic development and the rapid advancement of urbanization process in Changsha City in recent years, human activities have brought about more frequent and intense impact to urban geological environment.Relying on the detect and test items for potential urban road safety hazards in Changsha City and combining geology and geomorphology of study area and hydrogeological data, this article explores the potential urban road surface collapse safety hazards in Changsha City and has found some potential geologic hazards hidden under urban roads through integrated utilization of geological survey method and advanced geophysical exploration method. The detection results of this project lie in examining the status and characteristics, the type and distribution as well as the mechanism of emergence and development of urban road surface collapse by synthesizing existing urban geological data and survey, design and construction data on environmental geology, hydrogeology and municipal roads and supplemented by municipal pipe network information. Road surface collapse in Changsha City can be summarized as karst collapse and human engineering collapse. It is found out that karst road surface collapse is mainly influenced by formation lithologic characteristics, geological structure developmental state and groundwater effect in the region, while human engineering collapse is mainly inflenced by the damages to underground geological environment balance caused during the building of human engineering and the groundwater effect. The research on the mechanism of formation of road surface collapse can provide rationalized proposals for the siting, construction management and municipal pipe network laying of urban roads; the research results can also provide technical support and abundant databases for the establishment of intelligent early warning platform for urban road surface collapse.
