Landscape fragmentation leads to the change of landscape pattern, function, process, etc. Its influence on land use is also very significant, and it is also one of theimportant indexes of landscape integrity. As the core area of regional energy andchemical industrial base in Northern Shaanxi, Yulin, where resources developmentactivities are increasingly strong, where the contradiction between human and natureare increasingly obvious, and where the ecological conditions are fragile, has becomeone of the hot areas of academic research. This paper studies the landscapefragmentation of Yulin, discusses the evaluation methods of the regional landscapefragmentation and the correlation between fragmentation and desertification, fragmentation and soil and water loss, and reveals spatial and temporal regularities ofdistribution of landscape fragmentation in Yulin area. This article’s information source is based on the remote sensing image data. Dataprocessing and index calculation tools are based on statistical software, including,ERDAS, ARCGIS, Fragstates (the landscape pattern analysis software). It evaluatedthe landscape fragmentation in Yulin area according to the relevant theories oflandscape ecology, and analyzed relation of fragmentation between soil erosion anddesertification. The results show that, the overall landscape fragmentation in Yulinwas intensified as the result of the evolution of the natural environment and theinterference of human activities. And the main reason for the serious regionalfragmentation include the increasing quantities of landscape mottling, intensifyingland fragmentation, decreasing grassland, increasing forest area and humaninterference. Landscape fragmentation is not closely related to desertification and soilerosion, and explains that landscape fragmentation is not the main cause ofdesertification and soil erosion.
