In this thesis, the beam generation methods, propagation and transformationproperties of cylindrical vector beams are theoretically and experimentally analyzed. In the past several years, cylindrical vector beams have attracted much attention. Asthe most representative cylindrical vector beams, radially polarized beams andazimuthally polarized beams can be widely used in many important applicationfields, such as optical trapping, laser cutting, optical microscopy, optical inspectionand metrology and optical data storage etc. In this paper, we take radially polarizedbeams and azimuthally polarized beams as the research object, and investigate thepropagation expressions and the polarization singularities for radially polarized beamdiffracted by a triangular multipoint plate. Numerical calculations are performed tocompare the influence of corresponding parameters on the properties. We generatethe azimuthally polarized non-diffracting beams. The self-reconstructionphenomenon of the radially polarized beams and azimuthally polarized beams arestudied. The main results are summarized as following:1. Based on the Fraunhofer diffraction integral formula, the propagationexpressions for radially polarized beam diffracted by a triangular multipoint plate(TMP) are derived. Through the theoretical calculation and experiments, we get theintensity distribution in the diffraction field and it is arranged periodically. We alsoanalyze the polarization singularities of radially polarized beam in the diffractionfield by using the complex Stokes fields. It is shown that the light intensity patternschanges as the N-value of the TMP varies. The number of the polarizationsingularities increases with the increment of the N-value of the TMP. The beamparameters (the wavelength and the waist width of the beam), transmission distanceand the parameters of the TMP (the size of each side of the triangle) have influenceson the positions of the polarization singularities. The creation and annihilation of thepolarization singularities may appear as the N-value of the TMP varies.2. Azimuthally polarized (AP) non-diffracting beams are investigated theoretically and experimentally in this paper. We generate the AP non-diffractingbeams by passing laser beams through a polarization converter and an axicon. Boththe non-diffracting and the self-reconstruction phenomenon are studied theoreticallyand experimentally. The azimuthally polarized beams with non-diffracting andself-reconstruction properties may have wide applications in many fields such asparticle trapping and manipulation.3. Radially polarized (RP) non-diffracting beams are investigated theoretically andexperimentally in this paper. We generate the RP non-diffracting beams by passinglaser beams through a polarization converter and an axicon. The radially polarizedbeams with non-diffracting and self-reconstruction properties may be widely used inthe particle trapping and manipulation field.
