As an important detection technology, polarization detection can provideStokes vector, degree of polarization and angle of polarization that intensitydetection can’t and increase the information dimension of the object. It hasimportant application value in atmospheric remote sensing, target recognition andmedical diagnosis. In order to obtain the intensity information and polarizationinformation of the middle-long distance targets, a multi-spectral polarizationinformation detection system is designed and implemented according to the Stokespolarization detection principle, using timing polarization detection technology.The system implements the function of middle and long distance targets detectionfrom multi-spectrum.The main contents of this paper include:(1) A multi-spectral polarization information detection system is designed andimplement in order to obtain the intensity and polarization information of themiddle-long distance targets. The existing polarization detection technology isinvestigated after analyzing the basic principles of the Stokes polarization detection.The overall structure of the detection system is designed using timing polarizationdetection method. The software system is developed using modular approach. Thedetection experiment database is built in order to achieve data management underthe influence of factors such as different time, location, weather, and spectral.(2) The calibration method is designed considering the main factors affect theaccuracy of the detection system. The calibration experiments of spectrum,spectrum radiation response degrees, CCD response uniformity, response ofdifferent polarizer and the orientation of the polarizer is proceeded to establish aquantitative relationship between the system output signal with the actual targetinformation.(3) The experiment of detecting the intensity and polarization information ofoutdoor targets is carried out from multi-spectrum. The intensity and polarizationinformation at different wavelength is obtained. It indicates that the system is betterable to detect objects at847nm than at full-wave band. The angle of polarizationcan maintain the target characteristics better at847nm in fog conditions.
