With the rapid development of Chinese Marine economy, the development andutilization of marine resources are much more important. The oil and gas resource cannot only promote the development of social economy, but also alleviate the shortageof energy. The Bohai sea and the northern of Yellow sea are rich in oil gas resource.Their coasts are decorated with many fine ports, and the transportation is convenient. However, because of the influence of the monsoon climate and the limitation of thespecial geographic conditions, sea ice forms every winter. The sea ice has broughtmany negative effects in many aspects to local fishing, oil mining and hippingtransportation. In China, the research of sea ice started relatively late that we had suffered heavylosses in the frozen of the Bohai sea in1969. From then on, our country began towork on sea ice monitoring, prediction and research, in the mean time, oceanengineering designers began to think about the sea ice in the design of Marinestructures. Considering the large differences of sea ice between the northern ofYellow sea and the Bohai sea, in order to adapting to the Marine engineering designand production requirements, researchers put forward the thought of "sea ice division", namely, the Bohai sea and the northern of Yellow sea are divided into21sea iceareas. Finally, with the requirements of the application of the actual engineering, theconcept of "sea ice intensity" was raised gradually. Researchers divided them in termsof intensity on the basis of the division of21ice areas. Since this is given as astandard specification, no quantitative description in this paper.Referring to nearly30years of sea ice data, the Bohai sea and the northern ofYellow sea ice intensity regionalization was carried out by using the correlationanalysis, principal component analysis and cluster analysis in this paper. The main work of this paper is as follows:(1) Select the three parameter variables: the50-year return period thickness oflevel ice, the compressive strength and severe ice period. Then adopting differentclustering method, we obtain new results of the regionalization of21sea ice areas are. Finally, some comparisons are made between two results.(2) On the basis of the original standard, more parameter variables are put in thedivision of ice appropriately, such as temperature, salinity, density etc..We calculatethese elements by principal component analysis, and get the new results.(3) Considering the damage of floating ice, we join some variable parameterswhich have influence on floating ice, such as drift velocity and poise,. Calculate theseelements by principal component analysis, then put the21sea ice areas into clusteringdivision, which can be used as the reference of floating ice intensity.
