Contextual Analysis Of The Teleological Explanation Of Biology

In the21st century, Philosophy of Biology which belongs to philosophy of science has become more and more important, many scholars begin to focus on the forefront issues of philosophy of biology, trying to expounding the philosophical connotation. Teleological explanation of biology, as the important field of philosophy of biology, has always been the focus and in-depth discussion for the many scholars such as Ernst Mayr, Hull, and Lewens. It involves the problems of its historical origin, the ideological core, the mechanism of the explanation system, as well as the reducibility. These scholars make many enlightening analysis on the teleological explanation from their own perspectives, in order to make the connotation of the teleological explanation constantly enrich, but at the same time there are many disagreements in the academic fields.The article attempts to study the teleological explanation from the perspective of context in this paper. This paper can be divided into three parts. In the first part, the article mainly clarifies the links and differences between the teleological explanation and the traditional teleology in biology, and states the characteristics of teleological explanation. Finally, the article poses three problems of teleological explanation which needs to be tackled as soon as possible, and the three problems involve the syntax, semantics and pragmatics of the teleological explanation. In the second part, the article focuses on these three issues in turn from syntactical characterization, semantic explanation and pragmatic presupposition for analysis. This section, as part of this theme, involves the model of teleological explanation, semantic conversion of teleological explanation, semantic analysis in molecule biology, the teleological explanation in the different biological disciplinary traditions and the practicality of teleological explanation. The article systematically makes explanation of the related problems and given their own answers. In the third part, the article mainly states the characteristics and significance of the contextual analysis, and poses the indivisibility, openness and psychological intentionality of the analytical method, and the article further explains the significance from the necessity and the overall qualifications of the contextual analysis.The article systematically states the philosophical questions of the teleological explanation from the holistic perspective of context, and then reveals the contextual dependence of the teleological explanation. In this way, contextual analysis can enlighten us in solving the related problem of the teleological explanation.
