Marine meteorological forecast is the report of marine meteorological and hydrological status, while map is the main form of presenting meteorological forecast. The traditional marine meteorological forecast map uses paper as the medium to present a mass of meteorological forecast observation information, which limits the information containing and classified display effect. Moreover, traditional cartography technology has a complex process and a long production circle. Its storage and transmission is also very difficult. In comparison, short and medium term marine meteorological forecast’s producing frequency is high, which make it difficult to use traditional cartography method. Applying GIS technology to the area of marine meteorology forecast production and marine meteorology information visualization can raise the departments’producing efficiency and manufacture level of marine meteorology forecast map, and further give technical support of analyzing marine environment character distribution and revealing marine phenomena essence to the research institute.Compared with other marine meteorology forecast service system, the building of marine meteorology forecast cartography production system still needs more improve. To construct the integrated data share platform of nationwide marine meteorology forecast production, the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center has established criteria with regard to the content of forecast element, demands of data format and production publishing form. In this context, this thesis has developed a marine meteorology forecast cartography producing system, which integrates functions as forecast producing, multi-source data loading, fisheries’ forecast data editing, production generating and sending, based on the technology of ArcGIS Cartography and ArcGIS Engine. This system enables forecasters who are lack of GIS knowledge produce marine meteorology forecast map production that meet the forecast standards.The research results are listed as follows:(1) This thesis studies the implementation of special symbology in marine meteorology forecast based on the production standards published by the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center and uses the secondary development technique to build a system to meet forecaster’s symbology making habit.(2) The research implements multi-source data integration in a single system. The data includes standard forecast data published by the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center, numerical forecasting data and so on. The forecaster can import them to the system as reference and make further editing operation. This verifies the possibility of the integration construction of data sharing on marine meteorology forecast.(3) This system has a good extensibility. It can extend all kinds of themes in marine meteorology forecast such as storm surge, tide, salinity and water temperature, thus this system can be improved to a comprehensive Marine Meteorology Forecast cartography platform.
