With the boom of China vehicles, the auto industry has become saturated and entered a period of adjustment, meanwhile, the laws and regulations make increasingly stringent requirements on product quality. To deal with this new situation, major OEM manufacturers continue to expand its manufacture depth in the Chinese market, and continue to shorten the new product development cycle, which propose new demands on new product development project management in auto industry. Z Company is a wholly foreign owned company, which develops, produces, sales and repairs recirculation-ball steering gears for commercial vehicles, acting as a leading company. Z Company has a good project structured product development process, but there are also many inadequacies. This paper will focus on coordination problem in Z’s new production develop project.Firstly, this paper will analysis and discuss about projectized product development process and usage of project tools in Z Company. Secondly, this paper will identify the problems of coordination in Z’s weak matrix project organization, based on the experience of projects execution. Finally, this paper will use the ideas of process analysis to study the6elements of PDP process, so as to make sure the contents in Z Company PDP process, and get the general guideline for coordination between project team and line team, meanwhile, optimize the coordination mechanism from the perspective of organizational structure optimization, as well as the quality of information sharing.Steering Gear is an important functional part, and also safety part in commercial vehicles. It is quite seem with other vehicle parts. So the study result in this paper is also useful to other new product development projects.
