With the advent of the era of economic globalization, the field of transportation has been taking place in a series of revolutionary changes:the gradual decline in the proportion of bulk cargo in the freight structure, the proportion of groceries is rising. Container multimodal transport continue to rise, various transport elements and way of increasing are more and more integrating. In this context, as the hub of integrated transport chain link and the main platform of the modern logistics, the construction of the container port is concerned by all countries at all levels of government. As a scientific problem, container port system has become the emerging areas of port geography, port economics and other disciplines. As an important infrastructure, port plays a major role to support the economic development of the countries and regions. It connects production with consumption and links domestic and foreign, and it is directly related to the economy of the city and its hinterland. Nowadays, as the rapid development of container transport, the container port develops with high speed. At present, China has basically established a complete set of container port system, formatted five groups of ports.Learn from the research results at home and abroad on the basis of clear premise of the concept of a container port system, combined with the current development of China’s container port system, From several perspectives, consisting of the number of container ports, throughput, spatial layout and market concentration, the paper analyzes the evolution of China’s Container Port system and market structure from1979to2011using Herfindahl-Hirshmann Index. And it points out that China Container Port System was in the quickly disperse phase from1979to1989, and a highly concentrated oligopoly market as well; Then, it was the stage that mutually replacing between slowly dispersed development and slowly centralized development from1989to2009, and it was a moderately concentrated oligopoly market. The centralization trend continued with the HHI less than1000, and a decentralized competitive market trend appeared. This requires that the port enterprises continue to improve their hardware environment and constantly upgrade their soft power. With the constant enhancement of the level of competition, such as the introduction of strategic partners, information construction and attention to the management of human resources for the Port Container Transport to provide intellectual support.
