A Research About Regional Economic Thought Of Weng Wenhao (1932-1948)

Weng Wenhao is a well-known economist in modern times of our country. To some extent, his regional economic thought is an important part of economic thought. His regional economic thought changed Chinese regional economic structure and layout, and occupied an important position in the history of economic thoughts of Republic of China.We divided this thesis into five sections to discuss Weng Wenhao’s regional economic thought in the period of1932-1948. Firstly, we narrate the background of the formation of Weng Wenhao’s regional economic thought. Many people thought that it was important to carried out the Northwest development and the Southwest construction according to the prevailing domestic and international background, however, Weng put forward his owning viewpoint. What’s more, Weng started his political career in1932and began to administer the national economy. All of the above metioned affairs facilitate the formation of Weng’s regional economic thought. Secondly, we mainly discuss Weng’s tentative idea about the national regional economic development before the Anti-Japanese War. Weng believed that it was a tough task about the Northwest development and he also proposed the concrete policy on the construction of mainland economy. Thirdly, we primarily recount Weng’s regional economic thought during the Anti-Japanese War period. After the outbreak of the war, the wartime economic construction had made some achievements, especially in the Northwest and the Southwest region which provided the material foundation for the victory of Anti-Japanese War. The fourth part is Weng Wenhao’s regional economic thought after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War period. Weng served as the minister of economics department of Republic of China in1945and put forward the regional economic development plan: courageously restoring the economy of the Northeast and the North region of China; making every efforts to operating regional economy of the Central and the South of China; further developing the regional economy of the Southwest and the Northwest of China; further constructing the regional economy of the Southeast of China; developing and improving the Taiwan’s industry. The fifth part mainly describes the characteristics of Weng Wenhao’s regional economic thought which run through the Weng Wenhao’s thought. The main features including:paying attention to the science and technology, developing the local characteristics regional economy, constructing the state-run economy and private economy simultaneously, rationally and effectively to utilize the foreign capital and give priority to the development of heavy industry. Finally, we objectively evaluates Weng Wenhao’s regional economic thought, and explores the status of Weng Wenhao’s regional economic thought in the history of Republic of China.
