For Liaohai area belonged to the newly-developed borderland in Han Dynasty,documentary records about the area are far from enough for researchers to do research on theeconomic development of Liaohai area. In recent years, more and more archaeologicalremains about Liaohai area are excavated, which to some extent reflects the generaldevelopment of agriculture, handicrafts and business in this area. The improvement of ironfarm implements, the spread of iron plows, the application of sowing with a drill technologyrepresent the development level of agriculture. Meanwhile the development of handicrafts insmelting iron, copper and pottery is significant. The expansion of development of agricultureand handicrafts and its rising situation contributes to the prosperity of business activitiescentered by towns which in turn promotes the flourish of agriculture, handicraft industry,raising livestock, fishing and hunting economy in Liaohai area. Each economic departmentcooperates to make progress together. The superior natural geographical environment, theeffective political methods, good transportation and advanced technology have promoted theeconomic development in the three regions. In terms of the stage of development, its feudal economic level is generally equal to that of the central plains. The region, the junction offarming, nomadism, fishing and hunting culture, is an unique area in which a variety ofeconomic forms exist and develop. Compared to the Warring states period with singleproduction mode, the economic form of Liaohai area in Han Dynasty gradually develops intoa more advanced, multiple and comprehensive form. The south Yanshan region lives onagricultural economy; the eastern part of inner Mongolia mostly lives on nomadiceconomy,combining agriculture; in Jilin area the dominant economic form is fishing andhunting and raising livestock, combining agriculture.Compared with the surrounding areas,the local and ethnic characteristics of economic development in Liao area are distinctive andsignificant.
