The21st century is destined to be the century of the cities. The competition between countries in fact is the competition between cities. Domestic cities in international competition and international cities in domestic competition have been produced. Chinese global competitiveness largely depends on our ability to build a number of globally competitive cities or city cluster. The important issue of study the urban competitiveness is to identify the critical factors of the urban competitiveness. Summarize the path to improve the urban competitiveness, which provide a reference for the development of urban. China’s eastern coastal is the major urban agglomeration area. Compared the west region, the eastern area are facing greater opportunities and challenges. In order to cope with global competition and nurturing China’s international competitiveness, it is important to analysis the eastern cities’competition.Defining the urban competitiveness of the research background and theoretical basis, this paper constructed a urban competitiveness evaluation index system contains21variables on the basis of references from home and abroad, and then with the help of statistical analysis software of SPSS, using factor analysis method to establish the measurement model of urban competitiveness. Shandong and Guangdong are China’s two important economic provinces and they both are the coastal provinces, they have so much commons and also differences that selecting cities of Shandong and Guangdong is persuasive. This paper analyzes a total of38cities in two provinces of urban competitiveness and model results in both qualitative and quantitative ways. Basing on the respective provinces of the problems in the urban development, this paper gives suggestions for further development, hoping the cities competitive analysis study could have a certain reference value to the analysis of other provinces.
