An urgent need for metropolitan agriculture development research that focus on small and medium cities of this subject is necessary. In this paper the use of the theory combining with empirical analysis to research the development of agriculture from suburban agriculture transformation to metropolitan agriculture in Changzhi city suburb as an example.Firstly, access to information analysis of domestic and international research, and then analyzes the concept and its characteristics of metropolitan and suburban agriculture, puts forward as small and medium-sized cities in central China, In Changzhi city as an example, the suburb by its special geographical position and advantageous conditions, with new ideas to the development of agriculture is in order to better serve the Changzhi city’s agriculture development. To realized suburban agriculture to the transformation of metropolitan agriculture development.Secondly, focus on the foundation of the development of Changzhi city suburb agriculture, the economic and the social conditions, the angle of agriculture industry structure and so on elements, this paper analyzes the situation of agriculture in Changzhi city suburb, and the policy with the "eleventh five-year plan" period of the suburban agriculture development experiences that on comprehensive analysis to provide useful information to Changzhi city development of metropolitan agriculture.Thirdly, through the suburbs of city agriculture Changzhi city development practice research, analyzes the main problems and the main advantages in the agricultural development of the transformation.Finally, analyze the opportunities of Changzhi city suburb in metropolitan agriculture development, and put forward the guiding theory, development principle, key direction and development models.
