China is the birthplace of the world’s tea, and it had monopolized the global tea market.From1870s, due to the growing up of newly-emerging tea nations’ foreign trading, and thetrade depression of China, the position of Chinese tea in global market was sharply down, andits competitiveness almost died out. At the same time, the dominant tea changed from greentea to black tea. Although in nowadays, we have the largest cultivated area and the most annulyield of tea in the world, and the foreign trade of tea recovered, it is hard to recover thecompetitive advantage of Chinese tea in the global tea market. So, the factors of Chinese tea’sreviving, and how to improve Chinese tea’s foreign trade competitiveness are what manyscholars concerning about.This paper compete China with other major trade nations of tea, and the overall merit ofChinese tea’s foreign trade competitiveness, find out the problems and potentials of Chinesetea’s foreign trade, and put forward corresponding suggestions. As following: firstly,concluded the relative studies at home and abroad, and the theoretical ground. Second ly,competed China with Sri Lanka, Kenya, India, The United Kingdom and Germany by indexesof foreign trade competitiveness, and found the competitiveness of Chinese tea was weak andthe capacity of gaining competitive benefit was bad. Thirdly, building the indexes system ofChinese tea’ foreign trade competitiveness on previous research achievements, then evaluatedit by factor analysis. Getting the result of we only possess of quantity advantage of tea exportand the foreign trade competitiveness of Chinese tea in the past16years has been decreasing,but the advantage of export potential index, as the index of quality and domestic demand, isrising. Finally, analysis the factors on the new diamond model, and got this concludes: theadvantages of endowment of resources were decreasing, the effect of relevant industries wereweak, the quantity index was descending, the power of domestic demand was enormous, andso on.As the compare analysis, the paper got this concludes: although the proportion ofquantity advantage in Chinese tea’s foreign trade competitiveness is high, its effect ofinfluence is down, and the position of export potential index is up. So, improving the currentsituation of Chinese tea’s foreign trade competitiveness, using the potential of domesticdemand, improving the tea market, the standard of private enterprises’ export and cultivateadvantages of the tea industry chain should be focused.
