As the essence of the land resources, arable land is the material basis of farmers’ production and living. At present, the research on cultivated land use conversion have mainly focused to its objective change phenomenon, while farmers that is the subject to land use change haven’t attract much attention. The behavior and willingness of farmers, direct land-use decision-makers, has an important impact on the local land use change, particularly cultivated land. So this paper will divide several types of household, and then compare the differences among them in the conversion of arable land use.Taking the farm households of Chen he Village located in the hinterland of Jianghan Plain as objects, this paper obtains date of cultivated land use through the questionnaire survey. Based on the different types of farm household, explores the driving mechanism of cultivated land change of the farmers by the model of logistic regression analysis. The main conclusions are drawn as follows.(1) Based on survey data of102farmers in Chen he Village, farmers in the sample are classified, into four types (pure agricultural type, mainly based on agriculture type, non-agricultural predominant type and non-farm type), by their income sources and the proportion of agricultural income in revenue.(2) This paper analyzes the basic characteristics of the head of the household of Chen Village, family characteristics, economic characteristics of the farmers, and the quality of resources. At the same time, characteristics of cultivated land use at the typical village of Jianghan plain are summarized. In recent years, the origins of the income are having become diverse, and less attention is focused to cultivated land. As a result, the phenomenon that cultivated land is translated into other types of land use, such as fish ponds, construction, forest and wasteland, is quite common. And then the main form is the roll-out.(3) On the basis of theory analysis about the internal and external driving factors led to the translation of cultivated land, this paper makes use of the logistic regression model to empirically research the driving mechanism of the cultivated land use conversion between different types of the farmers at the sample area. The results indicate that different farmer types have different restricted factors in the cultivated land use conversion. Labor skills and the ratio that income from cultivated takes up the total family income both markedly affect all types of farmers to converse cultivated land use. Cultivated land area per capita, traffic conditions have a significant effect to non-agricultural type farmers. Climate changes significantly influence behaviors of all agricultural types (pure agriculture type, the agriculture and non-agricultural mainly type), which suffer much from household age, and the proportion of non-agricultural labors. The proportion of raising individuals and cultivated land fragmentation also have a significant influence on farmers whose income mainly takes from agriculture. And pure fanners whose cultivated land has been conversed mostly because householder age, cultivated land area per capita, labor force.
