As a distinctive folk cultural activity spread around Nanjing, Qinhuai lantern show, usually taking place between Spring Festival and Lantern Festival every year, has a long history and great social, cultural and economic significances. Under the governmental managements, the Qinhuai lantern show has started to revive since1980s and increasingly becomes a symbol of folk culture and activities in Nanjing.The thesis analyzes the development of the Qinhuai lantern show since1980s on the part of governmental managements, and presents the development of the Qinhuai lantern show since1980s based upon those firsthand data gathered from governmental departments, folk artists, etc. in the way of Field Investigation of Folklore, then analyzes what problems and effects governmental leading has brought to the Qinhuai lantern show on the basis of current situation.The thesis consists of six parts as following:Chapter One, namely Introduction, is about why I choose the subject, and significance and methods of the research in the thesis as well as summary of related researches at home and abroad; Chapter Two mainly reviews the history of the Qinhuai lantern show between the Kingdom of Wu when it started and1980s;Chapter Three narrates the development of the Qinhuai lantern show’s3aspects since1980s:organization, security, publicity; Chapter Four analyzes what problems and effects governmental leading has brought to the Qinhuai lantern show; Chapter Five describes new features and the way for the future of the Qinhuai lantern show under the governmental leading; Chapter Six is the conclusion. The writer thinks that, while the fact that governmental leading has produced an effect on the scale, status and influence of the Qinhuai lantern show since1980s proves governmental managements effective, governmental leading has also brought some problems to the Qinhuai lantern show which to some extent limits the development of the Qinhuai lantern show in turn.
