China is the second largest economy, while for Sweden, a country with nine million people, cultivates a number of the world’s leading multinational companies A rising number of Swedish companies including SMEs are or about to entering China and trying to be successful. The aim of this thesis is to find how a Swedish company should adjust to the local cultural practices in order to form a deeper interaction and involvement with the local business.The thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter introduces the background, research problem, study purpose, delimitation and significance of the study. The second chapter mainly focuses on methodology; the third chapter mainly focuses on culture related theories. The fourth chapter demonstrates the research findings of the quantative and qualitative study conducted from survey and interviews about four Swedish companies in China. The fifth chapter analyses the research findings. The sixth chapter gives conclusion for the whole thesis, and provides some advices for Swedish companies in China, then points out the limitation of the paper and suggests potential orientation for the future research in the topic.The thesis is the first attempt to use quantative and qualitative analysis to study cross-cultural management in Swedish MNCs. The research objects of the paper are four Swedish companies in China. Through analyzing the questionnaire data and interviews from the Chinese and foreign employees in these companies, it was found that significant differences exists among Chinese and foreign employees, focus on identity, time, power and hierarchy, ambiguity and finally integrative strategy. Relative advices towards the cross-cultural management issues are made in the end.
