Small and medium-sized software companies are the backbone of software industry in China, they have developed very rapidly, many companies have a certain size, market is very competitive now, the project team motivation and performance appraisal is an important method to improve the core competitiveness of small and medium-sized software companies. There are many problems with the project team motivation and performance appraisal in the small and medium-sized software companies, they need to find a solution.This thesis introduced the theories and methods of team motivation and performance appraisal first, then tried to figure out the main problem of project team motivation and performance appraisal in the small and medium-sized software companies through research, and analyzed the factors that affect team motivation from team culture and characteristics of members based on the existing theory and the status quo of small and medium-sized software companies, and found out the team incentive method in project development and maintenance process, finally analyzed the factors that affect performance appraisal and gave a method of performance appraisal. Hope the article can provide methods and help to small and medium-sized software companies in project team motivation and performance appraisal.
