Nowadays,Serious environmental pollution, excessive consumption of natural resourcesaroused more and more attention of the international community. More and more countrieshave proposed the requirements of development of low-carbon economy and circulareconomy. Increasingly serious environmental problems are also restricting the sustainabledevelopment of China’s national economy. As the basic unit of social and economic activities,environmental problems have close relationship with enterprises’ production and operation.Therefore, the relationship between enterprises and environment has become the focus.Prevenient researches on driving force were based on institutional factors, technical factors,stakeholders and organizational characteristics. But scholars had not yet form a unifiedconsensus on the impact of institutional factors on green management. Using the institutionaltheory and based on the perspective of legitimacy, this study explores the theory of the greenmanagement and reviews the concept, measurement and related variables. On the basis oflegitimacy theory, the research focuses on the impact of institutional factors on the greenmanagement and the relationship between the green management and performance.In this research, we divide the legitimacy into different types: regulatory legitimacy,normative legitimacy, cognitive legitimacy and internal legitimacy. We also divide the greenmanagement into clean production and green marketing. Therefore we put forward hypothesis,discussed the impact of legitimacy on different dimensions of green management and studythe impact of green management on environmental performance and financial performance. Inthis study, through structural equation, we reach the following conclusions: first, Normativelegitimacy and internal legitimacy have significant effect on the green management. Second,technical compatibility moderate the relationship between internal legitimacy and greenmanagement. Third, clean production result in good environmental performance and financialperformance and green marketing dose not result in good environmental performance.Finally, based on the conclusion, this article proposes practical suggestions for thegovernment to set the policies, and provide reference for enterprises to carry out greenmanagement.
