Suitability evaluation of brownfield redevelopment is the necessary requirement for a reasonable planning of brownfield redevelopment and its utilization, and it is also the inevitable result of the land suitability evaluation application’s development. With the dramatic adjustment of China’s urban industrial structure, a large number of enterprises were gradually relocated, leaving behind a large number of contaminated, abandoned lands unused, this kind of land is usually called brownfield. While it has become vitally important and urgent to determine how to redevelop and draw up a reasonable redevelopment and utilization plan, so as to use land resources effectively, improve ecological environment efficiency, protect human health and safety, and finally achieve the aim of the sustainable use of land resources. This paper just studies and discusses brownfield redevelopment and its land utilization patterns from the perspective of land suitability.This paper analyzes the relevant theories of brownfield redevelopment and land suitability evaluation, on the basis of which to find the intersection between the two of above and will combine the theories both proposed and put forward the concept of suitability evaluation of brownfield redevelopment, trying to discuss its theory and methodology and launch a more systematic study through the empirical research. Concepts of brownfield, brownfield remediation and land suitability evaluation begins from part one, and identify the concept and connotation of suitability evaluation. Part two discusses in such areas as the characteristics, basic theory, procedures and methods of brownfield redevelopment suitability evaluation, to study the theoretical system. Part three tries to found suitable class evaluation index system on soil pollutants’concentration from the perspective of human health, and establishes suitable level evaluation index system on residential, recreational, commercial and industrial from ecological, social and economic conditions, following the guidance of the indicator system of construction’s principle, so to construct a complete index system of brownfield redevelopment suitability evaluation. Part four takes former Huishan Pesticide Factory in Wuxi City as a case, to determine the land suitable class and construction land suitable level, on the basis of which combine the two to obtain suitability evaluation results. Through that we could complete the empirical research of brownfield redevelopment suitability evaluation.Research methods used in this paper including literature research, field survey method and mathematical model method such as analytic hierarchy process, limit terms of method, fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. The empirical results show that the suitable class of former Huishan Pesticide Factory is Class I; the suitable level is for residential1, recreational1, commercial1and industrial3; the suitability is for residential, commercial and recreational use, which is entirely consistent with the actual planning, and it confirms the validity of this study.
