Food, as a basic necessity of life, is materially indispensable to the survival anddevelopment of humankind. The problem of food safety looms large as a very serious issueconcerning the livelihood of our people and the interest of our country. Over the recent years,severe events of food safety have frequently confronted some countries or regions in the worldand China is also among them. Those incidents have dealt a blow to the stability and harmonyof our society. Within the context of rapid economic growth in China, food safety attractsnational attention from public opinion given that overall food supply has been alreadyguaranteed. This issue has risen to a key factor to China’s social stability and its export of foodsto the rest of the world, and further affected the building of a moderately well-off society inChina.This paper first introduces the environment from which the problem of food safety arises,and then recapitulates the completed and insufficient study in the current food safety research.Based on the result of questionnaire targeted at different groups of respondents, this paperfocuses on the analysis of the current situation of how food safety measures are implemented inChina, in terms of their procedure and promulgation. In the end, some of author’s own opinionsand thoughts are presented in this paper, so as to serve as a reference for the effective rules andregulations adopted by the government to guarantee food safety.
