Economic growth is one of the country’s basic economic goals, the source of economic growth or factors of exploration and study of the economics profession has been a hot spot.2009, China’s construction industry contribution to GDP reached6.6%, a real pillar industries. The rapid development of the construction industry to change the urban and rural areas, promote the urbanization process, ease the growing problem of employment, improve people’s living standards have made a great contribution. In recent years, although the construction industry maintained a rapid development, but the industry as a whole is big but not strong, extensive management, and disorderly competition, low efficiency, so the productivity of the construction industry is essential. This article compares the TFP (Total Factor Productivity) under the different calculation methods, describes the calculation of Malmquist index and decomposition methods. Collected during the period1997to2009,31provinces and autonomous regions in Mainland China construction industry inputs, outputs basic data, using Malmquist-DEA of these31provinces in the construction industry productivity calculation and analysis of empiricalOverall, in the period from1997to2009,31provinces and autonomous regions in Mainland China’s construction industry has improved productivity, efficiency change them (EFCH) to catch up with better performance, but technical change (TECH) catch up poor performance. Performance is basically the construction of the Guangdong Province in the upper reaches of the column, efficiency change (EFCH) to catch up with technological change is better than (TECH) to catch up. In the observation period, the mainland of China Construction Malmquist index mean1.088, Guangdong Province, the construction industry average of1.0976Malmquist index. From the distribution of each year, in2007reached1.140Malmquist index mean the best performance in2001, only1.041Malmquist index mean the worst. From the provincial areas, only by Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Zhejiang provinces and4technical change (TECH) to catch up with good, and the remaining27provinces of the progress of the construction industry productivity is efficiency change (EFCH) to catch up with the results. Shows the simulation of China’s construction industry is strong, lack of innovative capacity.
