Affordable housing, also known as "social housing","public housing", is an object of avery close contact with the social and public issues. For a long time, people’s awareness ofaffordable housing is limited to its government background. Speaking of the public, people donot really understand. In order to make the form and content of unified in architectural design, this article will examine the affordable housing in public perspective, with a purpose that is toexplore the public connotation behind it. After that, it will explain how to create a publicnature in the Community Design. This article is divided into a total of six chapters. The first chapter, introduction, will discriminate on the concept of public nature, Then itwill use the spatial language to interpret it. In addition,it also describes the possibility andnecessity of design combination of public and affordable housing. The chapters II and III, examine two aspects of the status quo with affordable housing. These two aspects of the status quo are low-and middle-income population living status andthe status of the affordable housing system. The fourth chapter is part of analyzing. Inspecting by the two aspects of the status quoabove, I found it does not correspond to the relationship between the protection of housingsettlements and the housing demand of low-and middle-income population. In the perspectiveof the public, there are serious "public crisis" in the current affordable housing settlements. Tosolve the crisis by design approach, I look for clues from the residential area of the existinglow-income population. By using the city-village for study, I analysis the environment ofcity-village and evaluate it with public nature, and then sum up the inspiration of design oflow-income settlements. On this basis, the chapter Ⅴpropose strategies from four aspects. These four aspects are:to explore the value of affordable housing settlements, to create a public spirit of thesettlements, to guide people’s communicative action, to encourage residents to PublicParticipation.
