| Since its introduction to China in the1990s, the concept of "industrial cluster" hasbeen the concern of both the scholarship and the government. Earlier attention was paidto this concept by the developed countries and it was not until the end of the1990s thata multifaceted research was carried out focusing on that concept among the scholarshipin various fields. In this thesis, a study of the mutual relationship and influence betweenthe industrial cluster and the development of regional economy in Jiaodong Peninsulawill be focused upon, utilizing the theories in regional economics, industrial economicsas well as management science.Starting from the basic concepts, characteristics and the classification of IndustrialCluster, the thesis then offers an analysis of the external factors and incentives informing the Industrial Cluster and of the competitive advantage of it from theperspective of economics.Then an empirical research is demonstrated of the Industrial Cluster in JiaodongPeninsula: first the status quo of its development, then the influence factors of itsdevelopment using Michael Porter’s Diamond Model and further more its effects on theeconomic development of Jiaodong Peninsula. Next, taking the appliance industrialcluster in Qingdao as example, an analysis of its status quo, characteristics, formationmechanism as well as a comparison with its counterparts in other regions of China arerevealed.Finally the thesis reveals the problems in the development of appliance industrialcluster in Qingdao and Jiaodong Peninsula, provides some solutions to them and thenpredicts its development trend.With the industrial cluster in Jiaodong Peninsula as the major object of study, thethesis is written aiming at the objective as follows:1)To help form a better understanding of the effects that the government and theindustrial cluster have on the development of regional economy, facilitating a betterpolicy-making to boost regional economy development and profits;2)To shed light on the construction of industrial clusters in other regions byanalyzing both the favorable and unfavorable factors in the industrial cluster of Jiaodong Peninsula3) To help the entrepreneurs better recognize the effects of rapid healthydevelopment of regional economy so that they may apply more effective strategies incompetition and cooperation. |
