At present, the constructions of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone are in full swing. To provide current policies with some beneficial historical reference, the paper focuses on the history of Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, especially the regional business network forming process in modern times. Commercial network is one of the important marks of the regional economy contacts becoming more and more intense. In premodern times, Beibu Gulf area belonged to different administrative region and was located in partial south China, which lacked of internal communication and social economy was very laggard. Since the modern age, the Qing government had opend three ports, that brought a new opportunity to this region’s development and Objectively maked internal economic interaction to be gradually frequent, so a extrude commercial network had initially taken shape. It had a great influence on the overall economic development process of Beibu Gulf area at that moment.This paper is divided into seven parts:The first part is the introducation, which mainly discusses the significance of the research topics methods and ideas, as well as relevant academic overview, and based on these, this part summarizes the innovation points of this paper, then points out the meanings of "Beibu gulf area","Market network","Commodity circulation network" and "Business network".The second part introduces natural and historical basis of the Beibu gulf area, in order to realize the area’s physical geography situation and development level before modern age. First of all, it describes the stable natural factors such as geography and climate, and combs the historical development of elements of this region’s business network. Secondly, this part sorts the complex organizational evolution within the region.The third part probes into the agent and economic basis of the Beibu gulf area’s commercial network in modern times. It analysis the direct stimulative effect of the customs opening on the domestic and foreign trade expansion, and then has a further discussion on the performance of the economic development of cities and country fair towns, so as to understander the key premise and commercial basis for the business web formation.The fourth part relats to the structural elements of the Beibu gulf area’s commercial web in modern times. From the point, line, surface aspects, it developes the web shape that which consists of the cities and towns at different levels, traffic and communication line, businessmen and their economic entities. According to this, the Beibu gulf area is divided into two regions whose economic centers are respectively Nanning and Beihai.The fifth part further discusses the operation mechanism of the Beibu gulf area’s business web in modern times. As opposed to the dissection for resting structural elements of the fourth part, this part focuses on the moving circulation objects that are comprised of merchandise flow, fund flow, information flow and labor flow. They occupy different places in the operation mechanism, and exert important influences to the economy operation situation of the whole area.The sixth part, based the previous paper, analyzes the impacts that the Beibu gulf area’s business network had on the area’s economic development in modern period from the aspects such as circulation of commodities and technology exchange and so on.The seventh part summarizes the limitations of the Beibu gulf area’s commercial network forming process, that brings the historic basis and references to construction of Beibu Gulf Economic Zone in Guangxi today.
