| Equality between men and women is China’s basic national policy. The degree of equality between men and women is an important symbol to measure the level of development of China’s social civilization. The protection of women’s employment rights and providing women and men the same opportunities has an important practical significance for the country’s economical social development and progress of civilization. China is still in the primary stage of socialism, subject to the constraints of the level of development of productive forces and social level of civilization, there are still many problems in the implementation process of the female employment rights, gender discrimination in employment are still affecting the realization of the value of the women themselves.This article begins with the analysis of gender discrimination on the labor theory of the employment impact of urban women’s employment status, to explore the specific impact of gender discrimination on the employment of urban women in China. Through literature research and data analysis it can be found that women has lower rate in the employment and more intense degree of competition in the labor market than men. Employers tend to enter employment, wage income, job promotion, occupational structure and work time has demonstrated a preference for men, women more demanding. The causes of sex discrimination in employment is more complex by the combined effects of physical, historical, cultural and social factors, but also by economic factors of the investment in human capital and the employer’s preference. Empirical analysis of the tendency on the industry wage index and occupational gender segregation index is calculated to show that there are significant genders differences in the distribution of occupations and industries, women are treated unfairly. Based on the above analysis, we make recommendations in terms of social awareness, employment opportunities and legal regulatory system, an attempt to alleviate the current problem of gender discrimination for women to create a fair and equal employment environment. |
