At present, specialized gender segregation in higher education is a common phenomenon. In May 2010, Mycos Investigation Agency survey data showed that in 2009 university graduates, men mainly concentrated in science and engineering, while women are concentrated in the liberal arts. On the other hand, female students still face severe employment situation, the specific performance is low employment and income. Therefore, this analysis of theoretical and empirical methods to explore these two phenomena inherent causal link. This paper first analyzed the reason for specialized gender segregation, discovered that specialized gender segregation was formed by the occupational sex stereotypes ,which transmited effectively through the family, the media, schools and other channels . And pointed that the specialized gender segregation not only affected by the innate biological differences, but also determined by postnatal environment. From above theoretical analysis, put forward hypothesis 1: The specialized gender segregation is endogenous, which is formed by environmental impact . Then, analyzed specialized gender segregation influence, and put forward the hypothesis 2: The specialized gender segregation creates the inferiority status which the female university student gets employed in labor market. In other words, compared with engineering guys, the girls gathered in literature and history have lower employment rate and income. Finally, descriptive statistics and empirical research methods are used to confirm two hypotheses, which was proposed in theoretical part . This paper used 2008 questionair data to carry on the descriptive statistics and the regress examination. The Logistic regression and the Heckman two steps are used to estimate its influence on the employment of the college students, and the treat effect model is used for verifying sex endogenous impact on specialized segregation. The result showed that the specialized sex's segregation has created the female students'inferiority status in labor market, namely lower employment and wages. Thus has confirmed the theorical hypothesis.Based on the above theoretical and empirical research, drawed the basic conclusion that specialized gender segregation was not inherently , sex stereotypes formed by postnatal environment had a critical influence. specialized gender segregation had created a female college student's disadvantage in employment. Meanwhile, corresponding government policy, education sectors and the medias should give some effective measures to alleviate specialized gender segregation. |
