This paper uses Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) to evaluate the national economy total factor productivity and forestry economy total factor productivity status of the12western provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) in China during2000-2009. Additionally, technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency, scale efficiency, total factor productivity(TFP) growth rate, forestry technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency of forestry, forestry scale efficiency, forestry total factor productivity growth rate were measured and comparatively analyzed by using kinds of input and output data towards those area. According to the results of this paper, the mean of technical efficiency of national economy of those western regions in2000-2009is0.842, the average value of technical efficiency of the forestry economy is0.519, the national economy TFP growth rate is-4.4%and the forestry economy TFP growth rate is2.5%. Additionally, the results indicated that national economic efficiency is better than the forestry economic efficiency because of less loss of efficiency, and the TFP growth rate in the national economy is less than the growth rate of TFP in the forestry economy. Furthermore, the decline of national economy total factor productivity was mainly caused by technological changes and efficiency progress contribute the most of growth in total factor productivity of forestry economy.
