From the experience of the world’s successful enterprises, enterprises’survival, competitiveness and sustainable growth can not be separated from establishing and perfecting a scientific, standardized human resources management system. Above all, it is crucial to build a motivation mechanism with "Develop People" and "People Oriented". An appropriate motivation mechanism would not only be an efficient means to mobilize the enthusiasm and creativity of the employees and efficiently fulfill its tasks and goals, what is more, it also helps to lower employees’ turnover rate and motivate to constitute their sense of belonging, identity, and loyalty for the enterprise. Therefore, the effectiveness and efficiency of employee motivation mechanism is to some extent a crucial variable to determine the fall and rise of an enterprise.Chengda Engineering Corporation of China (hereinafter referred to as Chengda Corporation) is an EPC engineering contractor with engineering design as its main business. In the past 50 years since its establishment, by adhering to the company policy of "focusing on the domestic market, opening up to the outside world, making use of the others’advantages", Chengda Corporation has been enhancing enterprise management in all aspects, promoting technical progress with great efforts and trying to upgrade project management and human resources management level, hence economic benefit has been growing year by year. As a learning-oriented enterprise, Chengda Corporation incessantly learns from the advanced experiences of big enterprises at home and abroad, putting greater emphasis on the building of the employee motivation mechanism. As an organic component of Chengda Corporation, Electrical Department follows has been thinking how to find an effective motivation model which serve to the Electrical Department’ work nature and employee’s characteristics.The essay starts with some nuclear concepts such as human resources, performance management, employee motivation, bases on clarifying and generalizing related theories such as organizational behavior, system theory, human resource management and leadership, takes Chengda Electrical Department as case study for an depth study of its history and reality in a particular situation, analyzes existing problems and shortages, and then proposes several alternatives for solutions, evaluates the benefits and costs for diverse programs, and finally finds a reasonable approach and solution.The essay is divided into five sections:Chapter One is an introduction. This section presents the research background, the purpose and significance, main contents, and research approach and methods.Chapter Two is a theoretical basis for the thesis, an overview of the part of the human resources management in several motivation theories, including the assumption of human nature theory, the need for motivation theory, process theories of motivation, learning motivation theory, These theories will provide the intellectual foundation for the improvement of the employee motivation of Electrical Department.Chapter Three is designed to outline Chengda Corporation and its subsidiary agency--Electrical Department, describe and analyze existing problems, and analyze the feasibility and necessary for performance evaluation and employee incentives.Chapter Four explores to establish a new motivational system’s principles for the Electrical Department, analyze intellectually-based employee’s characteristics and requirements, and propose the practical reform measurements.Chapter Five is the summary and expectation about this research. In short, human resource management is the art of managers, is a science with effective methods, and moreover, is a developing, innovating institution combined with management art and scientific means. No matter what kind of enterprise would be, an enterprise’s development is inseparable from the person’s creativity and enthusiasm. Therefore, enterprises must attach importance to employee motivation. According to the actual circumstance, we should make synthetically use of various motivation mechanisms, combine with the means and ends together to change traditional thinking patterns, so as to truly establish open-minded incentive systems with entrepreneurial features, timeliness, and employee’satisfaction. Only by doing this can the enterprise gain a firmly established foothold in the drastic market competition, and remain invincible forever.
