An Empirical Study On The Reasonability Degree Of Foreign Trade Commodity Structure

Foreign trade has being developing fast and got cheerful progresses in scale aswell as structure after China joining the WTO. It has become a mainstay of economicdevelopment in China. By the year2011, China’s total amount of foreign trade hasbroken through3trillion dollars, which created a new historical record. It has becomeincreasingly urgent to adjust the industrial structure and develop competitiveadvantage and improve commodity structure of our imports and exports when totalvolume of trade has reached up to such a scale.This paper firstly analyzes the features and change trends of foreign tradecommodity structure in China during20years from1990to2009, Then calculatingimport and export reasonability indexes respectively for comparison with input-outputmodel and input-out table which includes17industry and42industry during tenyears from1997to2007, and then analyzing change trajectory of reasonability degreeof foreign trade commodity during10years from1997to2007based on empiricaltest results. After that, the paper proposes approaches and suggestions for optimizingforeign trade commodity structure of our country according to the above empiricalanalysis. It suggests that the government should correctly choose specific keyindustries and give proper policy support for them as much as possible. Particularly,government decision-making should support imports of bottleneck industry whichhave more influences on the whole economy and support exports of pillar industry innational economy system, meanwhile, measures such as introducing overseasadvanced technology, transforming economic growth mode and promoting industrialstructure adjustment and upgrade should be took for the better of foreign tradecommodity structure of our country. Finally, corresponding conclusion is given bygeneral analysis of full text, which is the foreign trade commodity structure of ourcountry has improved a lot, but there is still room for improvement.
