An Empirical Study On Reasonability Of Foreign Trade Commodity Structure In Beijing

To discuss the problem of the optimization of the foreign trade commodity structure, the reasonable degree of a country or a district has to be measured first. This paper makes an analysis on the reasonability of foreign trade commodity structure in Beijing from the point of national economy and industrial structure in order to forge its competitive Advantages. Firstly, it analyzes the foreign trade commodity structure in Beijing by using the data of foreign trade from 1999 to 2005.It is found that the industrial manufactured goods makes up the major part of the import and export in Beijing, and the foreign trade commodity structure has been continuously optimized. Secondly, the reasonable degree of the foreign trade commodity structure has been studied using the input-output model, based on the data in the 2002 input-output table of Beijing. By empirical analysis, it is found that the export and import commodity structure doesn't correspond with the pillar industry and bottleneck industry quite well, and irrational parts still exist. Finally, it is suggested in this paper that strategy of sciences & technology trade, and diversification of export market, as well as the promotion of upgrading of processing trade and reasonable exploration of the foreign investment, should be applied to optimize the foreign trade commodity structure in Beijing.
