In2001, China became a member of the WTO, then China’s foreign trade hasmade a spurt of progress of development. Total import and export trade is increasingyear after year; structure of import and export commodities is optimized ceaselessly;the development of trade promotes a more and more important role on economicconstruction. In recent years, China has established the world’s second largesteconomy, also ranked first in total exports and second in total import and export. Atthe same time we should clearly understand its problems and shortcomings. China hasbecome a large trading partner, but there is still a big gap compared with the worldtrade power. Especially after the2008global financial crisis, the changes in the tradesituation urgent China to be a trade power.This paper first reviews the achievements since China’s accession to the WTO,elaborated mainly from five areas of export, import, commodity structure, tradepatterns and trade subjects, that China has become a world trading power. Secondly,the paper focuses on the distinction between the connotation of trade power andtrading power. Through the comparison of China and the world trade power, we findthe reasons of China should to be a trade power. Again, points out the serious impactof the global financial crisis on China’s economy, and sums up the main obstacle afterthe global financial crisis. Finally, based on the above analyses, this paper gives somesuggestions, divided into scientific and technological elements, the elements ofresources, human elements, the system elements in four areas.
