With the development of communication technology and broadband internet technology, "wireless city" plan has been put on the agenda of the central cities. " Wireless Yizhuang" project jointly developed by GeHua CATV and the Administration Committee of Beijing Yizhuang Development Zoon has made the wireless internet access in the whole Yizhuangxincheng area come true. It will provide the government departments with quicker and more convenient platform for their e-government administration. It is also a new broadband multimedia trunk communication business for enterprises and publics that was not realized in the second generation of mobile communication network or not satisfactorily effective in the third generation of mobile communication network. Besides, it is a pilot and demonstration project to build a " Wireless City" information network platform in Beijing.GeHua wireless broadband MAN employs McWiLL technology that has enjoyed Independent intellectual property rights as broadband wireless access system. The carrier network employs all IP for transmission and data exchange. However, since the McWiLL system is not commonly used, some important indexes and parameters involved in the actual practice need further collecting and verifying. The purpose of the essay is to study the planning method and characteristics of the McWiLL system so that the two projects--"Wireless Yizhuang" and Wireless City"-can be used for reference as successful examples of applying McWiLL into the wireless digital city construction.In the essay is discussed theoretically and practically the key techniques of McWiLL and its application features in the " Wireless Yizhuang" project. Firstly, the project background and McWiLL standard are introduced. Then, the differences and similarities of McWiLL and WiMAX in networking, covering and capability are discussed so that we can see a broader future of its application. With many key techniques of McWill, the essay focuses on the basic principles of four including intelligent antenna, CS-OFDMA, high-efficient VoIP frame and dynamic channel allocation and, by giving the examples of their application in the wireless network planning, stresses the features of high wireless link estimate, high application rate of frequency band, efficient business integration and flexible network framework. In addition, the road test for verifying the coverage and capacity of McWill network is described in details and the corrected simulation model and its match rate with the road test are presented. Finally, the operation of the " wireless Yizhuang" project and planning of GeHua IP carrier network are outlined.Mass application of McWill technology in China is still at its starting stage and the wireless digital city construction and business promotion in large cities are under exploration. In the coming three or five years, with the accumulated experience from the previously constructed cities, McWill system will surely develop into a mature period.
