With the rapid development of network technology, the network applications are widespread. Its structure is becoming more and more complex. These changes have made people’s knowledge about the characteristics and the inherent nature of network become less and less, and brought a series of difficulities to the management and analysis of network. The real-time network traffic measurement system provides a way to probe into the network characteristics in a real situation, and it provides business management function for some specific enterprise users. Users can configuration business information flexibly to know the network traffic generated by some special businesses. This is one of the key characteristics that this system is different from other network traffic measurement softwares.This paper deeply discusses the design and realization of real-time network traffic measurement system. Firstly, the introduction of network monitoring technology ensures the passive traffic measurement method. Secondly, making use of Winpcap can realize the snatch of data. Through the use of multi-thread and buffering technology, the operations including packet snatch, analysis package, the front push and storage are carried on in parallel way. This greatly reduces the packet loss risk. Using the event delegate mechanism and the mode of server trasmit communication, the business rules alteration problems are solved in a single client and clients. The adoption for some database optimization strategy makes operation time greatly reduced. The system realizes the packet snatch module, real-time measurement module, historical inquiry module, traffic table module, traffic statistics module, original traffic data module and business management module.Real-time network traffic measurement system can not only reflect the current state of the network, but also can look over the historical traffic information in table and graphical way and make the results more direct. The setting conditions for filtering and query are rich, the users can conduct the timely measurement and historical inquiry from multiple angles. The system uses lots of database optimization strategies, shortening the operating time and making users get better user experience while querying traffic information. Through many performance tests, the system’s stability and reliability reach the ideal state. The unique business management function is aimed at the enterprise users, who can understand each business state communicated by deploying business information on the enterprise inner network, thus can provide help for instituting business and expanding directions.
