User model is a knowledge model of the connection between users and the outside world, which is human’s knowledge of the outside world and the description of the interaction with the outside world. User model includes requirement model and operational model.User requirement model includes the demand of the product features, design, and feedback methods by the various features user. User operational model consists of behavior characteristics of users’ while they are doing some tasks on devices. KLM (Keystroke-Level Model) is a skilled user model proposed by Card that can predict task time of PC operation.The previous studies of KLM were mainly about the human-computer interaction with PC and physical buttons mobile devices etc.. Nowadays with the popular of touching-sere en mobile devices, it’s necessary to study KLM model of touch-screen mobile devices.On the basis of previous studies, this research studied the KLM model of the larger size touch-screen mobile device in hands thumb-operated type.This study consists of three sections and five experiments. In the section one, the researcher would establish the KLM model based on the touch-screen mobile phone hands thumb operation, including three experiments. In experiment1, the researcher studied the different charge of the area of the hands thumb on the touch-screen phone keypad. In experiment2, the researcher measured the time of the physical operating unit of the KLM model. In experiment3, the researcher measured the time of the psychological operating unit. In the section two, the researcher evaluated the model suggested experiment4. In the section three, the researcher explored the validity of the KLM model in assessing mobile phone availability suggested experiment5.The research showed the following main conclusions:1.The hands thumbs in the4-inch screen of the touch screen phone with full keypad (the following is the same) has a different operating area:the thumb of the left hand is primarily responsible for the keys of q, w, e, r, t, a, s, d, f, z, x and c, and the thumb of right hand is responsible for keys of p, o, i, u, y,1, k, j, h, m, n and b, and g and v are common keys with both hands. That is showing axisymmetric shape on the screen.2.For non-experienced users, the left hand of left-handed people average clicking time (unit is millisecond and the below is same) is208, and the right hand operation one of the left-handed people is217, and the left hand operation one of the right-handed people is276, and the right hand operation one of the right-handed people is250. For experienced users, the left hand of left-handed people average clicking time is218, and the right hand operation one of the left-handed people is214, and the left hand operation one of the right-handed people is251, and the right hand operation one of the right-handed people is214. All users average clicking time is232.3.For non-experienced users, the left hand of left-handed people average pointing time is tPL1=11+207×ID, and the right hand operation one of the left-handed people is tPR1=-8+214×ID, and the left hand operation one of the right-handed people is tPL2=142+126×ID, and the right hand operation one of the right-handed people is tPR2=10+174×ID. For experienced users, the left hand of left-handed people average pointing time is tPL3=69+118×ID, and the right hand operation one of the left-handed people is tPR3=71+118×ID, and the right hand operation one of the left-handed people is tPL4=88+147×ID, and the right hand operation one of the right-handed people is tPR4=50+141×ID. All users average pointing time is tP=59+146×ID.4.For non-experienced users, the general psychological operation time of left-handed people users is691, and the right-handed people users time is789. For experienced users, the general psychological operation time of left-handed people users is441, and the right-handed people users time is450.All users average pointing time is579.5.Compared with real task operating time of users, the model was proofed of a good prediction. The difference between predicted time and real task time is8.4%.6.Compared with the predicted results and user operation objective indicators and subjective evaluation, and found to have a higher consistency. So the model can be used as a very effective way to assess touch screen phone availability.
