User model is a knowledge model of the connection between users and the outsideworld, which is human’s knowledge of the outside world and the description of theinteraction with the outside world. User model includes requirement model andoperational model. User operational model consists of behavior characteristics ofusers’ while they are doing some tasks on devices. KLM (Keystroke-Level Model) is askilled user model proposed by Card that can predict task time of PC operation, andthe model has been used widely in the flied of human-computer interaction. But theprevious studies of KLM were mainly about the human-computer interaction with PCand key-press handheld mobile devices. Nowadays with the popular of touching-typehandheld mobile devices, it’s necessary to study KLM model of touching-typehandheld mobile devices. On the basis of previous studies, this research studied thetouching-type handheld mobile devices with KLM methods and compared themodel’s parameters of different user groups. This research consisted of three sections and six experiments. In the section one, theresearcher construct the quantitative KLM of touching-type handheld mobile devicesthrough pre-experiment; In the section two, the researcher measured theparameters of KLM model of touching-type mobile phones through four experimentsand compared the model’s parameters in different user groups; in the section three, the research evaluated the model by experiment five. The research showed the following main conclusions:1.This research construct the quantitative KLM of touching-type handheld mobiledevices, which includes7operators: r(page adjustment response),R(page changeresponse),m1(character choosing),m2(pinyin transform),M(the general mentaloperator);and the researcher also made the heuristics of the laying of m1,m2and M.2. This research compared the parameters in different user groups: Neither parameters were influenced by gender factor; P and M were influenced by theexperience of using of touching-type mobile phones.3. This research measured the parameters of KLM of touching-type mobile phones: Ris0.096seconds, r is0.003seconds, and the linear law for m1is Tm1=0.107seconds*(the site of character-1)+0.665seconds, m2is1.235seconds. The Fitts’law of P andT has two Categories. The skilled touch-screen phone user:MT=a+b*ID。a=0.199seconds(p=0.000),b=0.055seconds(p=0.003);The novice: MT=a+b*ID。a=0.194second(sp=0.000),b=0.034second(sp=0.001).M has two categories too. The skilledtouch-screen phone user:0.931seconds; The novice:1.012seconds.4. Compared with real task operating time of users, the model was proofed of a goodprediction. The difference between prediction time and real task time is0.4%.
