With the rapid development of the information society, demand for communication bandwidth is growing fast. As the advantage of a large core diameter, resistance to bending, easy installation and low cost, polymer optical fiber(POF) is very suitable for short-distance communication and is the ideal transmission medium of Fiber To The Home(FTTH), and thus gets more and more attentions. And researches about polymer optical fiber communication links become a hot topic in the field of communications.As the bandwidth of POF is limited, it’s hard to use POF for high-speed, long-distance applications. Therefore, enhancing the bandwidth of the POF communication systems to realize longer distance and higher speed data transmission is an important issue for application of POF in the field of communications.In this paper, implementation of the POF communication links and optimization on the transmission technology to enhance the overall system bandwidth are researched. Specific research contents are as follows:In Chapter Ⅰ, the domestic and international research status of POF and work contents of this paper are briefly introduced.In Chapter Ⅱ, the basic characteristics of POF are introduced and the transmission performance of POF is analyzed.In Chapter Ⅲ, the implementation of POF communication links for high-speed, long distance data transmission is studied in detail. And the transmitting module and the receiving module are designed and implemented. In Chapter Ⅳ, a transmitter-based equalizer according to frequency characteristics of the preliminary designed basic POF link is designed and implemented in order to effectively improve the overall system bandwidth.In Chapter Ⅴ, the system performance of the finished basic POF transmission link and transmitter equalizer are tested and analyzed. And the experiments show that effective Gigabit data transmission is realized over the50m SI-POF link and a large system margin is achieved with the transmitter-based equalization.At last, in Chapter Ⅵ, the whole work is summarized and the work direction for future study is pointed out.
