As a new form of social media, online social network has become one of the most important carriers of the modern network information production and diffusion. The formation and evolution of the relationship in online social network are quite distinctive from the traditional social networks.From the perspective of information diffusion, this paper proposes a possible explanation of network evolution:the information diffusion has an impact on the formation of relationships in online social networks. On the basis of triadic structures, the mechanisms of information diffusion and relation formation are assumed and modeled. Through experiment on the real data of Sina Weibo, the social media properties of online social network, and the mechanism of how information diffusion influences relationship formation are validated.This paper also studies and discusses the triadic structure theory of traditional social analysis. Some statistical measures of network are described and explained. The ideas and methods of triadic structural evolution provide a theoretical basis for this study. In order to quantify user history interactive behaviors, this paper presents the information flow network according to the social media characteristic of online social network. Moreover, from the angle of information diffusion, this work discusses the online social network relationship formation mechanism based on information flow network and the hypothesis of triadic transitivity.Through experiments on the real data of Sina Weibo, this paper validates the triadic transitivity hypothesis and the information diffusion influence to relationship formation. It’s proved that the information diffusion is an important factor of network evolution. A method of community network sampling is also presented to obtain specific communities and close relations within.
